Timanfaya National Park

It is one of the most impressive and unique landscapes of the Canary Islands. This park covers more than 50 km² and is characterised by its volcanic terrain, the result of eruptions that took place between 1730 and 1736, and again in 1824. These eruptions covered almost a third of the island, creating a lunar landscape that looks like something from another planet.

The terrain of the park is made up of impressive solidified lava flows, volcanic craters and a variety of rock formations. One of the most famous spots is the Islote de Hilario, where underground volcanic activity is still so intense that a few metres below the surface the temperature reaches 400-600°C. Visitors can see geothermal demonstrations in the park, such as pouring water into the ground and watching it emerge in the form of a geyser or setting fire to dry branches with underground heat.
